Social Events

Other social events and meetings we have had include; evening/night dives, summer BBQ’s, award dinners, AGM, weekends away and diving holidays.

Evening/night dives start with a few shallow shore dives, but we also take the boat out to familiar dive sites to dive them at night which gives you a different perspective on the dive, and enables you to see different marine life.

Barbeques tend to happen throughout the summer, on a midweek evening, and are organised by a club member (or a group of members!). We sometimes shore dive at the same time as the barbeque, but their main purpose is definitely social!

We have awards for Diver of the Year, Trainee of the Year, Special Achievement and Mistake of the Year (the Golden Porthole). These are decided by the club committee and given out at our Annual Dinner/Dance in January. This is the main social event of the year where we all meet up, dressed to impress in our black tie finery! This year (2010) it took place in January, in Connor Downs, with a disco as entertainment later in the evening. This years winners included Arthur Richards, Diver of the year, Shelley Tasker our new equipment officer won the wingletang award for her complete inability to remember the correct names for any piece of diving equipment! Trainee of the year was .... and the winner of the Andy Wilde award for services to the club was ...

The AGM takes place shortly after the Annual Dinner/Dance,where we elect the new committee, and discuss club business. Its a good place to get to know who's who in the club! Plus we normally end up in the pub afterwards!

We meet every Friday night at Redruth School swimming pool from 8.30pm to 10.00pm, then usually go on to the Portreath Arms, a pub in Portreath, where the landlady is a diver, where we stay from 10pm till late! You can come along to meet club members at either of these - either just turn up and introduce yourself, or contact us first to check everything is running as normal, then you'll get someone to meet and greet you.
